Structural Fill Replacement

Introduction

CUPOLEX is a forming system for providing an easy, efficient and fast solution for replacing structural fill. The CUPOLEX RIALTO system was innovated to provide heights from 500mm (20 inches) to 2500mm (100 inches). This cutting edge forming system comprises of the CUPOLEX dome technology installed with pipes and bases that quickly interlock and connect to each other composing a self-bearing structure ready for the placement of a concrete slab. The elevated CUPOLEX slab supported by the matrix of columns formed by the pipes allows the system for high load-bearing capacities and the elevated CUPOLEX RIALTO structure and the void created below the slab can be used for various purposes and applications.

Applications

Cupolex replaces expensive and time consuming engineering of structural fill required to support slabs on grades. Cupolex also replaces expensive foam insulation and EPS blocks typically used for creating floating concrete slabs when weight limit is a factor. Cupolex also reduces the “dead load” on top of the existing fill or structure and eliminates the need for costly design analysis and construction methods associated with higher strength, load bearing structures.

Cupolex is also well suited as a structural void fill in concrete forming operations. Crews can easily fabricate virtually any shape or slope. Applications include:

  • Stadium seating in auditoriums and sports arenas,
  • Stairways,
  • Podiums,
  • Loading docks, and
  • Rooftop pool decks
  • In garden roofs,
  • Can provide elevation changes
  • Provide a lightweight, supportive base for liners, soil, irrigation systems, and plants.

Suitability

Please refer to the Cupolex and Cupolex Rialto Technical Data Sheet for details of the physical properties of the product range. The appropriate height of Cupolex should be selected based upon the required equivalent void and the maximum load capacity that the slab is required to support. This information is provided in the table below:
