This site in the city of Toronto is a multi-use community facility that includes a community centre, a community space, a childcare centre and two elementary schools. CUPOLEX® provided both a vapour mitigation system and a separate soil cell system.

The vapour mitigation system covered 2,570 m² (27,700 sq.ft.) of the building to provide an unrestricted sub-slab void. CUPOLEX® eliminated the need for a membrane/liner and provided more efficient venting characteristics with reduced long-term maintenance costs.

Additionally, 1,000 m² (10,800 sq.ft.) of CUPOLEX® soil cells were used to plant approximately 40 trees in plaza and sidewalk areas. CUPOLEX® Soil Cell suspended pavement planters provided a cost-effective solution for the public realm hardscapes and an environment in which the urban trees can thrive.

Orillia Recreation Facility

The Orillia Recreation Facility, opening fall 2020, will provide amenities including multiple pools, a gymnasium, a fitness centre, and a childcare room. Site concerns for this project included ground and soil contaminated with volatile organic compounds. 6,500 m2 (70,000 sq.ft.) of CUPOLEX® were installed to provide a sub-slab venting medium, preventing VOC migration into the building.

WasteAway Recycling & Environmental in Kitchener, ON provides waste sorting and transferring as well as recycling services. As part of the site development, 2,000 m³ (70,000 cu.ft.) of stormwater had to be detained. A deep 2,125 m² (75,000 sq.ft.) CUPOLEX-RIALTO® tank was installed. By creating a detention tank below the pavement, surface space is conserved, and the anticipated overhead loading can be safely supported thanks to the unique concrete column matrix formed by the CUPOLEX-RIALTO® system.
