WasteAway Recycling & Environmental

WasteAway Recycling & Environmental in Kitchener, ON provides waste sorting and transferring as well as recycling services. As part of the site development, 2,000 m³ (70,000 cu.ft.) of stormwater had to be detained. A deep 2,125 m² (75,000 sq.ft.) CUPOLEX-RIALTO® tank was installed. By creating a detention tank below the pavement, surface space is conserved, and the anticipated overhead loading can be safely supported thanks to the unique concrete column matrix formed by the CUPOLEX-RIALTO® system.

CUPOLEX® was a part of the stormwater management design at Markham Free Methodist Church in Markham, ON. 500 m² (5,400 sq.ft.) of CUPOLEX® were used to form an infiltration tank capable of storing 310 m³ (11,000 cu.ft.) of stormwater. This design required a two-chamber system with the stormwater first entering closed bottom isolator rows for TSS removal before overflowing into the main infiltration chamber. The flexibility of the CUPOLEX® system allowed designers to easily incorporate the isolator rows, also formed using the CUPOLEX® system, into the tank design.

Evergreen Brick Works

The Evergreen Brick Works, located in the Don River Valley of Toronto, was founded in 1889 and was home to one of the country’s largest brick manufacturers for nearly a century. Now, Evergreen has transformed the site into a global showcase for green design that hosts public markets, conferences, private events, and outdoor learning sessions. During renovations, CUPOLEX® was used to form new concrete floors in the existing buildings. CUPOLEX® reduced the amount of heavy granular material required and provided a light-weight flooring alternative. In the historic kiln building, CUPOLEX® provided the void space required for wet floodproofing, allowing stormwater to flow in and out of the building foundation instead of attempting to prevent the building from flooding.

As part of the development of a new casino in Peterborough, Ontario, CUPOLEX® provided stormwater management. Due to high groundwater levels a shallow infiltration system was required. The tank provided 300 m³ (11,700 cu.ft.) of storage. Pontarolo Engineering supports consultants for the entirety of the design process ensuring that we provide the optimal CUPOLEX® solution for each project. For this project CUPOLEX® was the cost effective, easy-to-install alternative that met the specific project requirements.

The Willows at Whitehouse Station (Whitehouse Urban Renewal)

This new development is an affordable rental community located in Readington Township, NJ. As with many new developments, stormwater management is a key issue in the design process. On this site, two basins were installed using various depths of the CUPOLEX RIALTO® system. In total, 17,200 square feet (1,600 m²) of CUPOLEX® were installed to detain 54,600 cubic feet (1,500 m³) of stormwater. CUPOLEX® provided a solution that was quick and easy to install as well as cost-effective.

The meat processor Fratelli Beretta required a stormwater management plan to match its 33,500 sq.ft. (3,100 m²) warehouse addition in Mount Olive, New Jersey. Together with consultant CPL, a deep CUPOLEX RIALTO® chamber was chosen. The tank was 5’-6” (1.7m) deep and used an open bottom design. With the CUPOLEX RIALTO® system offering over 95% storage, this tank can hold up to 20,000 cubic feet (570m³) of stormwater with a footprint of 3,800 square feet (350m²). The tank’s function was to infiltrate small storm events with larger storm events being slow released into the existing sewer network using a precast outlet control structure. The high load bearing capacity of the CUPOLEX® concrete structure meant that the pavement assembly could be placed directly on top of the tank with no cover required.
